What a MASSIVE few weeks!

Hi everyone!!!
I'm back! It seems like so long since I've posted, not because I've had nothing to share, but because I've been a bit ridiculously busy. The last few weeks of term are always hectic and this term was no exception. We made the decision this year to change our annual concert to third term rather than fourth. One of the main reasons was because term four is already INSANE with reports, transition days, clean ups, and everything else. Plus by having our concert earlier, it means we have time for a (more low key) CHRISTMAS CONCERT! Needless to say, I am extreeeeemely excited about this! My favourite time of the year just got better.

The theme for our concert this year was 'Around the World' and the country (or state) allocated to my little wonders was Hawaii. We sang 'Hawiian Rollercoaster Ride', a super cute song that was featured in the Lilo and Stitch movie. They did such an amazing job!
This term also meant our Father's Day breakfast. We were so happy with the turn out.
It was great to see so many dads at school. We get an incredible amount of help from mums all through the year (which we are extremely thankful for!), so it was nice to have a morning dedicated to the dads who play such an important role in the lives of our little ones.
I managed to get some gorgeous snaps of my littles ones with their dads :)
As it so happened our Father's Day breakfast fell on the same day as Footy Colours Day. Footy Colours Day is an annual event where children wear the colours of the favourite AFL (or soccer and rugby) team to raise money for children and teens with cancer. The little wonders were also able to order a meat pie (how typically Australian!) and a juice box for lunch. All in all it was a fantastic day!
I was a little sad leading up to the end of this term, because it meant that end of our Space Inquiry unit :( We've had so much fun learning about our solar system and all the planets. I've been amazed at all the information my little wonders have retained. I started to randomly quiz them about the things we had found out so far, and every time I asked a question nearly every hand would shoot up.
One of the activities we did was to create our own alien. My kids loooove art and jump at any opportunity to be creative. I talked a lot about how to handle and mold air dry clay, like using a little bit of water on your finger to smooth out any lines. Heres a hot tip! Use toothpicks to make the joins a whole lot stronger. They turned out so cute and no two were alike.
On the topic of art and all things messy. One of our art focuses toward the end of the term was mosaic. Now theres no way I was letting my little wonders loose with tiles and grout, therefor paper mosaics were the next best thing!
I'll put a photo up soon of how they look when completed (of course I forgot to take one at the time).
Check out how efficient I am! Ha! Snuck down to work on the second day of holidays to do some quick jobs, so took some quick snaps.
Well I hope you've enjoyed a peak into the last few weeks of term.
I have a HUGE list of things I want to do before school goes back. As well as an assignment I should start and reports I NEED to start. Should be a thrilling few weeks (yeah right).

Happy blogging everyone!
Enjoy your holidays Aussies :)

Rockets, Rainbows and Frobscottle!

SPOILER ALERT!
If you are the dad of one of my students, this post is not for you! Off you go :)

I can't believe we have three weeks left of term 3....it's going to be Christmas any day now! (Hooray for Christmas!!!!) I'm linking up, yet again, with Doodle Bugs Teaching for a snapshot of my week with my little wonders.
We have been focusing on our space unit ALOT in our writing lately. This week I gave my kids a rocket template and told them to imagine they were looking out of the window. They had to write down what they saw, making sure they include 'expensive' adjectives (for example instead of the word big they could use a more expensive word like huge or gigantic). They put some red, orange and yellow streamers on the base of their rocket as the flames.
At the moment we are learning about the Creation story and the Flood as the focus of our religion unit. We've already made a class big book of the days of creation and this week began reading about Noah and the flood. To remind us of our promise with God we made these lovely rainbows to string across the entrance to our classroom. I love how bright they are!
Today (Friday) was a super fun day in our class! After more than a term of reading, we finally finished our class book, The BFG by Roald Dahl. The little wonders absolutely LOVED this book. The silly words and the humour kept them engaged throughout the whole book. They especially loved the part when Sophie and the BFG drank frobscottle and went 'whizzpopping' about the cave (see here for a definition of whizzpopping). So as a special treat for my little ones, I decided we would make our very own frobscottle!
First we poured lemonade into a cup and added a tiny, TINY, bit of red cordial. We then added a scoop of ice-cream and topped it off with some dream whip. I don't need to tell you how tempted I was to 'taste test' the dream whip. They little wonders slurped down their frobscottle and assured me there would be no whizzpopping, however there was the occasional burp, followed promptly with an 'excuse me'.

I was so inspired by Jennifer at First Grade Blue Skies and her Mother's Day Glyph activity, that I decided I would make one for Father's Day. I managed to find some nice frames for a great price in our local discount shop. The kids were so excited that they got to use real frames. They look so great, I know they're going to be something special their dads can keep for a long time. Thanks Jennifer for the super cute idea!
We also made our Father's Day cards this week. My little wonders drew a picture of themselves and their Dad on the front cover, and inside was a gorgeous little poem that we recited together. How adorable is this drawing!!
I hope you've all enjoyed my Five for Friday :)
Happy blogging!

It's that time of the week again!

Five for Friday link up with Doodle Bugs is here again! A definite highlight of my week.
It's been a whirlwind week to say the least. I had a horrible sore throat so was only at work for four days, perhaps thats why I feel like it's gone so quick!
Righto, lets get stuck in!
We began our new Inquiry unit this week on SPACE! I'm super excited about this unit, and decking my room out in space themed art. The kids are loving it too. We brainstormed all the things they already know about space, and added them to our Wonder Wall. We also wrote down all the things they wanted to find out. We'll find the answer to a question (aka google it) at the start of every lesson.
To draw an end to book week, our 1/2 team decided to do a book activity rotation.
The book I chose was 'I'm a Dirty Dinosaur' by Janeen Brian and Ann James. It's super cute book, and the kids loved that they used actual mud for the dirt in the pictures. They joined in when we read the repetitive pages with the big coloured writing.

After the story we made our own dinosaur out of paper plates and templates I found at Learn with Play at Home. We used oil pastels to create bright patterns on our dinosaurs and coloured their body parts in with paste too. I forgot to take a photo of one of the finished one....sigh. But I'll get one and put it up.
Today we had a special visit from the grade 5 students. They came over to our classroom and read to my little wonders, and listened to them read. It was so nice to see them helping out my little ones on some of the tricky words.
Check out my SUPER ORGANISED cupboard! Thank you Maria from Kinder-Craze. Your classroom supply labels inspired me to clean out my entire cupboard.
To tie our art in with our Inquiry unit, this week we made moon mobiles. The little wonders sponged two paper plates with grey paint and painted their stars yellow. After they dried they glued the stars onto some fishing line and attached them to their moons, and stapled them together. We were going to add gold glitter to the stars, but ran out of time. The kids then suggested we put silver glitter on the moon. I liked that idea so I think next week we'll take them down and add some sparkle!
Happy weekend everyone!
